Commissioner Altmaier Appoints New Chief of Staff to the Office of Insurance Regulation

Feb 25, 2022

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier announced the appointment of Alexis Bakofsky as the Chief of Staff for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR).

“Since joining OIR in 2019, Alexis has been invaluable as we’ve navigated a host of insurance matters that are critical to Floridians around our state. Alexis has a strong commitment to the policyholders we serve and I look forward to having her serve in this role as we implement strategies to further promote a stable and competitive insurance market for consumers,” said Commissioner Altmaier.

Bakofsky’s appointment is a continuation of her service to the state, having recently served as OIR Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director, where she was responsible for providing management oversight of strategic priorities and leading internal and external messaging related to a variety of insurance issues central to Floridians. Prior to OIR, she served in a number public service roles, including Deputy Communications Director for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, leading outreach and education initiatives to improve safety across Florida’s highways.

Bakofsky has a Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University. She is also an AmeriCorps VISTA alumna.
